Getting back in time with the iconic double – decker buses in Hyderabad

The evergreen and the iconic double-decker buses in Hyderabad are all set to make a comeback. The experienced manufacturers are asked to submit the procurement of 25 double-decker non – A/C buses by the Telangana RTC. When KT Rama Rao, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development narrated his school days stories as to how these buses were an integral part of his life, the state government decided to bring back these legendary buses in the month of November.
The son of K Chandrasekhar Rao, Chief Minister, Rama Rao wrote on Twitter, “I have many fond memories of riding the double–decker bus on my way to St George’s Grammar School at Abids”.
The officials of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has been bestowed with the responsibility of forming a committee that shall review the possibility of the double-decker buses in the city after a long span of time. A huge number of people have supported the Transport Minister’s decision of bringing back the double–decker buses on the road.
TSRTC has already planned to introduce 25 double–decker buses on the few routes that have been suggested by the committee. The expected routes are Secunderabad – Patencheru, CBS – Jedimetla, Secunderabad – Medchal, Kothi – Patencheru, and Afzalgunj – Mehdipatnam.
The tender notice of the government follows, “The bidder shall design, manufacture, test, supply, and commission the above buses. The tenderer shall be well established and must have manufacturing and supply facilities of fully built buses in India”.
These double-decker buses in Hyderabad were a hot favorite until 1990. The reintroduction of these buses in the city shall take you to the good old days and lure tourists far and afar.
