The new set of quarantine rules might affect leisure travel based on Chennai and Mumbai

In recent times, the state government of Tamil Nadu has extended the lockdown period of the state until March 31. It has also enlisted out the advisories issued by the state. According to the order, in order to control the spread of the virus, the district administration shall enforce strict regulations.

According to the new set of quarantine order for the Maharashtra based travelers, that requires them to get themselves isolated for a week, leisure and business traffic in between Mumbai and Chennai has got affected. It occupies the third position in terms of being the busiest route from the city.

Tamil Nadu has stated that people travelling from Mumbai are required to be get themselves home quarantined for a week. And people travelling from states like Karnataka, Delhi and West Bengal are required to provide a negative test report. According to the current rules and regulations, an airline official mentioned that there might be a fall in the number of passengers especially those travelling for leisure as they might not choose to fly to Chennai due to these stringent quarantine rules.

But according to a report there has been no news of a large scale cancellation of tickets. Nearly 12 flights operates in the Mumbai-Chennai-Mumbai air route and this has been one of the highest revenue generating sector in the airline industry. As numerous international travelers used to travel via Mumbai, the Chennai- Mumbai route had been one of the hot favourite.

An official from Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI), fears that these quarantine rules shall have an impact on the travel sector as there shall be fears amongst the transit passengers. He also said that there has been no restriction imposed on the transit passengers. People who are flying via Mumbai to the overseas are required to shift their tickets to Delhi and those returning to India are preferring Delhi as well. The dip in demand has urged in the reduction of fare to the international countries.

The official further exclaimed that it could be an initial reaction to the state’s strict quarantine restrictions on Maharashtra. They are quite hopeful about the future and expects it to fade away with time.
