Mahabaleshwar is the place to be this weekend

Located in the western Indian state of Maharashtra and nestled among the Sahyadri Mountain ranges, Mahabaleshwar happens to be one of the most important and often underrated gems of a tourism place. There are numerous enchanting places one can visit in the city. A day is far less than enough to totally grasp in everything that the city has to offer. But still, if you are short on time, there is much you can do. Let us start exploring the place through our lens.

After the breakfast in the morning, you must visit the place the city has been named after, the Mahabaleshwar temple. The temple happens to be a great monument full of the architectural magic of the medieval era. The city is, however, full of many different temples dedicated to many different gods from the ancient Hindu mythology which you can visit. Mahabaleshwar Temple, Panchganga Mandir, Shankar Temple, Mahabaleshwar Shiv Mandir, Janni Mata Mandir, Shree Ganesh Mandir are some of the temples to check out. You may have to hurry as there are a lot more places to see during the one day tour.

The next stop could be the Panchganga temple which happens to be around for more than 4500 years. The temple is known to be the origin of seven different rivers. Out of all of them, spring of five keeps flowing in the direction of the temple, hence the name Panchganga- Five Ganges.

Behind the Panchganga temple is the Krishnabai temple where the Krishna River gets worshiped, one of the seven rivers that emerge out of Panchganga. The temple was built in the year 1888 by the ruler of Ratnagiri on the Konkan coast. There is a beautiful Krishna statue in the premises along with a very old and beautiful Shiv Linga.

Vena Lake and the elephant point are two more places which you can visit in case you still have the time left before the sun goes down. The elephant point is also known as the needle point. The name was given to it because it has two massive rocks with a hole in the middle. Thus, the needle point.

You can relish some of the most delicious cuisines from all over the country. Some of the best restaurants in Mahabaleshwar one should visit are Mapro, The Grapevine, The Olive Garden, Saayali Restaurant, Little Italy, Sizzler Place and much more. It’s a kind of food paradise visiting these places.

How to reach there

The city is located at about a distance of 250 kilometers from the state capital of Mumbai and the railways are the roads are well connected to ensure a safe and sound journey to the place. The nearest airport to the place is the Mumbai international airport.

Mahabaleshwar happens to be a very ancient city, full of many old temples and monuments that remind one of the eccentric cultures and histories the city once had. Many different rulers, especially the Marathas, have given the city a lot to cherish which, in the present times are the biggest attractions of the city.

Where to eat Indian food in Jakarta

Indian food has a variety of dishes all spiced up and delicious. There is no shortage of restaurants that serve Indian food in Jakarta but in terms of taste and quality, I have compiled a list of the best places to eat Indian Food in Jakarta.

Let’s take a look:

Ganesha Ek Sanskriti

Address: BRI II Building, Jl Jend Sudirman Kv 44-46

Ph no: +62215719415

Address 2: Kemang Square Lt 2, Jl Kemang Raya No 5

Ph no: +62217196837

Ganesha is the top restaurant in Jakarta for Indian food. With its ethnic interior and branches spread in two different places, it not only offers a homely feel but also a variety of North Indian and Tandoori dishes. Their menu is divided into non-vegetarian and vegetarian items and everything is delicious. So you can order anything and it will turn out to be delicious

Kinara

Address: Kemang Raya No. 8-B

Ph no: +62217192677

Though it may be a little pricey, the food is definitely worth it. Also, the overall ambience of the place gives off a good vibe. They have a rooftop area for parties but even the main dining area is no less than royal.  My recommendation is to go for the Sunday brunch and get some free juice and lassi. The brunch starts from 11 am onwards. Otherwise, get ready to loosen your pockets.

Queen’s Tandoor

Address: Permata Plaza, Jl M H Thamrin Kav. 57

Ph no: +62213903286

This is one of the oldest and well-established restaurants that is known popularly for its fusion of Indian and Chinese cuisine. It also offers a wide variety of Indian food such as South Indian Dosa. You can also try their signature dish that is raan-e-bahaar, a mildly spiced lamb leg. You can trust Queen’s Tandoor to only serve you quality dishes made from fresh ingredients.

Koh-e-noor

Address: jl Rasuna Said C-22, Pasar Festival GF.03-04 Jakarta Selatan

Ph no: +62215276531

Koh-e-noor is one of the less pricey restaurants. The interiors are decorated with Indian paintings and ornaments giving it an ethnic look. You should try their naan, banarasi Dum aloo and do not forget the delicious Jalzeera. That is just what I found the most delicious but you can also pick one of the many things from the menu. In fact, there are also options for Vegans. The service is fast, there is a variety of Biryanis that you can try and this is one of the places that you will find yourself returning too. It is one of the places that will give you all you desire in terms of tasty food without burning a hole in your pocket.

Man aur Tan

Address: Jl Prof. Dr. Satrio Casablanca Kuningan (6th floor), Jakarta Selatan

Ph no: +622130040888

Address 2: Merlynn Park hotel Lantai 5, JL KH. Hasyim Ashari, No. 29-31

Ph no: +622130026888

It is a clever wordplay on Manhattan hotel. But this is one romantic restaurant and you can take your loved one there for a special date. The royal ambiance of the restaurant will make them feel like a king or queen and you shall be treated majestically while enjoying the deliciousness of North Indian cuisines. The staff may be Indonesian, they greet you in an Indian way making you feel at home.

Some more suggestions would be D’Bollywood, Samy’s Curry, Eastern Promise, Spicerack and Frontpage. That wraps it up. These are the most fantastic restaurants that will serve authentic finger-licking good Indian food that will make your stomach happy and your heart sing.

Desire to climb the top of the world? Follow these acclimatization tips

Traveling to the Himalayas is on every traveler’s bucket list but high altitude can spoil the fun if you take them lightly. High altitudes are related to acute mountain sickness that can cause a headache, nausea, vomiting, and even shortness of breath. These signs of mountain sickness are common if you happen to fly directly to high altitudes such as Ladakh.

Signs of acute mountain sickness occur normally at the height of 3,048 meters and above. The best way to cure these symptoms is acclimatization, which is a process to adjust to a gradual change in environment. You can even descend if the problem persists or even take medicine prescribed by any medical practitioner.

Here is the guide to better acclimatize in high altitudes.

Climb an Altitude Gradually

If you don’t want to face any mountain sickness then you should opt for the golden rule of climbing an altitude. That is staying overnight after climbing 10,000 feet. This will help your body adjust to falling temperature gradually and you will not suffer from any mountain sickness signs.

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water with ORS.  Do not just drink plain water but also keep hydrated yourself with loads of juice, tea, soup, and milk etc. ORS will replenish the minerals that you have lost while climbing the altitude. Do not drink too much coffee as it will dehydrate you. Hydration will keep the oxygen supply sufficient.

Do Not Sleep at Higher Altitudes

The performance of the respiratory system of your body slows down at higher altitudes. So it is recommended that you come down lower altitudes to sleep always.

Do Not Indulge in Too Much Physical Activity

While climbing high altitudes it is recommended that you do not indulge in unnecessary physical activity. It will leave you tired and breathless, which can make your journey even more exhausting. Stay calm and at peace.

Avoid Tobacco and Alcohol

Smoking, tobacco, and alcohol consumption leave dehydrated and lead to the slower performance of the respiratory drive. This can prove a problem especially when you sleep at altitudes.

Stay Warm

You should wear proper clothes and gears to keep your body warm and dry. While sleeping you should ensure that your sleeping bag is designed to beat the cold. Keep extra woolens, blankets, and quilts at your rescue.

Take a Proper Diet

Apart from taking fluids to keep yourself hydrated, it is important to take a proper diet as well. Eat loads of carbohydrates to keep your body energetic and going. Increase the intake of carbohydrates up to 70%. Most of the calories should come from you carbohydrate intake.

Do Not Sleep During the Day

Your respiratory performance slows down when you sleep. If you sleep during the day then you are not in a state to do other important tasks in the day. So stay awake and keep yourself involved in light activities to not feel tired and sleepy.

Carry Medicines

It is advisable to consult with your doctor before heading to holidays at high altitudes. They will prescribe you important medicines that will come in handy.

Acute mountain sickness (AMS) can be an unpleasant experience that can reduce the enjoyment of activities. In addition, if not managed appropriately and the symptoms are ignored, it can result in a more serious illness which can lead to death. The above methods during your adventure trip can help you prevent developing acute mountain sickness

Some best travel tips for Varanasi

All right! Traveling alone to just any part of Varanasi is more adventurous than finding crystal skulls with Indiana Jones in the kingdom of Akator. There is an exotic cultural amalgam in one corner and a deep feeling of the renaissance in another. But your unprepared trip to Varanasi can turn you into a spiritual Zombie without a map in the desert. We bring you some of the best tips that come in handy if you are exploring the destination of Gods, holy Varanasi in India. Here we go:

Best way to arrive in Varanasi

If you are already in India exploring other places, then take a flight to Delhi and from there you can take a direct train to Varanasi. From the Varanasi railway station, you can opt for a variety of modes of transport. From tumtum to fancy motor rickshaws with some gravity-defying passengers, you are on your own all the way.

Go the street way

Varanasi is a small holy destination. Not really an ideal city for those looking for some really good authentic Indian food restaurants. To say, there are just none. You have to roam around on the streets filled with devotees around the world and naked Aghoris openly smoking marijuana on the ghats. Try the food you get on small roadside eateries. That’s the real flavor of India and Varanasi. Some of the best Indian dishes are there on the street. Gorge on some spicy Kachoris and cool yourself off with delicious lassis (buttermilk) in the glasses designed for Hulk.

It is recommended that you reserve a room in the hotel in advance so that you can grab a better deal. Otherwise, you will have to be a really great bargainer. You can though get some really affordable guides right when you step out of Varanasi station. Invest in one.

One of the best things about Varanasi is that you can cover it on your feet. There is just no need to plan anything special for sightseeing in the holy place. The real thing is right there on the ghats. People from around the world come to wash off their sins here. The cremation rituals connect you to the world of spiritual nirvana. You get to see a colorful tableau of different beliefs, religions, and cultures altogether. You live it all right there on the ghats.

No pictures of the cremation rituals allowed on the Ghats

Part of your daily walk will entail seeing the cremations on the Ganga but remember you cannot take pictures of cremation rituals being performed by just anybody on the ghats. It is considered as the disrespect by the family members of the deceased. Keep both camera and phone turned off, if you are planning to just witness the ritual. Ask for permission before clicking Aghoris and Sadhus

The streets of Varanasi are all filled with colorful Sadhus and Aghoris smoking marijuana like chimneys. Some of them are scary while others are interesting. However, do not click their pictures without valid permissions. They can charge you a hefty fee or just get offended for no reason.

The Vishwanath Temple is the most celebrated and it is said that it is not open to foreigners.

Rickshaw-wallah scams: Here is one tip to avoid the scam.

One should be aware of the rickshaw wallah scams. If your driver tells you that your hotel has burned down or the road is closed but they know another hotel it just means they are asking for the commission. Do not fall in the trap, rather refuse to pay unless you arrive at your destination and check you really are at the right destination before getting out.

You might get lost in the alleys

The alleys are small and in plenty, they will give you a feel of the real Varanasi. You’ll almost certainly get lost but ultimately they lead you to the main road from where you can start all over again. Make sure to ask for your business card from your guesthouse and carry it along with you. So that in the case of any confusion you can ask people for directions when it’s time to get back home.

Too much PAAN everywhere

People here love Paan! You will find all the dudes chewing it and the sad part, they split it all over the place and roll it at lots of booths..so just be careful!! Although paan is popular all over India but you would have never seen so much of paan as they indulge in at this place.

Varanasi is one of the most popular places to visit in Northern India. It helps you get on the road of self-discovery and the travel tips above make the journey a lot easier.

Bikes and great food! It doesn’t get better than this at Biker’s Cafe

The Biker’s Cafe

Over the years, the themed restaurants have been growing in number at a frantic pace in Delhi-NCR. One other highly popular addition to the list is the Biker’s Cafe, which is supposed to be sort of a dreamland for the bike enthusiasts. And entering the place once makes it pretty much justifies the christening of the place. The cafe is full of jargons only the bikers would understand, even the menu items are named after the words that avid bikers would definitely identify with.

The place is located at Golf course road in Gurgaon at MGF Emaar building and in Vasant Kunj The average cost for two people is Rs. 1250 approx including alcohol.

Ambience

The decor inside the cafe revolves around the theme of the bikers and so the place just seems like a heaven for the bikers.  Although the ladies are not a part of the‘biker community’ much often, they seem to enjoy themselves here equally well. The best thing about the place is that being situated on the Golf Course road; it’s a great hangout place for people working nearby.

With the chairs made of bike seats and suspensions plus the parts of some of the best bikes from all around the globe hanging and sitting here, there and all around the cafe, the ambience inside is quite attractive and well thought out. You may never find a place that takes the ‘theme concept’ all this seriously. Even the lights resemble the headlights of the motorcycles and sitting on the chairs in front of the tables will let you know the meaning of the term ‘A biker’s delight’.

Cuisines

Like many other themed places in the city, there is no case of ‘all style no substance’. The amount of efforts that has been put in to make the food extraordinary is there. The cafe deals with a wide variety of cuisines, ranging from the Chinese, Continental, and North Indian to the Italian food. The food items and the drinks have been named quirkily. There are some eccentric drinks with names such as The Eye Opener, The Elixir of Youth and the Muscle Soother. The menu card reeks of coolness from all over it.

There are all the different varieties of coffees and teas, a make from the best beans and tea leaves imported from the best plantations in the country.

The food items are no less than excellent with options such as hakka noodles, pizzas and burgers along with some hardcore desi meals such as Kadhai Paneer, Palak Paneer, and Dum Aloo with naan and tawa roti. The veg tandoori platter, the spinach kebabs, and the Bombay sandwich are worth a try. The blueberry smoothie can compliment your dining experience well.

As we have mentioned above, the menu is exhaustive and you need to know your way through it.

Highlights

The memorabilia of some of the best and some cool retro bikes seems to be the biggest highlight of the cafe. All day breakfast option makes it a great place to hangout with your group.

Based on the bikers theme and with Harley at their front entry, the restaurant gives you a true sportsman feel and deserves at least one visit from the ardent bike lovers.

Review – Chocovault HKV

Chocovault does justice to its name. As soon as you open its vault gates, you see chocolate dripping from the ceiling and similar chocolate contrast with chairs and tables as well. It was like a safe for all the delicious chocolate desserts.

Location:

Located amidst the Cafes in Hauz Khas Village in Delhi, it is a cozy little space that would satisfy your chocolate cravings. You can spend quality time there with your fellow chocolate lover friends.

Ambience:

This is a small cozy place around the corner and it gives off a very chocolatey vibe with its colors and interior. The dessert menu is on ipad which was cool to look at. The decor is soothing, the seating comfortable and staff very cooperative and nice.

Menu:

The menu is varied and it gives you all sorts of chocolate desserts to satisfy your cravings. For us people with a sweet tooth, ChocVault is like Willy Wonka’s factory. The menu is diversified and there are so many options to choose from. We will be visiting the place again just to check off the stuff from the menu because we wish to try them all.

Food:

We ordered a bunch of desserts like ‘The Nutella Waffle”, Chocolate Nuke, hot chocolate fudge, the chocolate ball and chocolate shake. The hot chocolate fudge was delicious and most probably the best thing we’ve ever tasted. The Nutella waffle was delicious as well though the waffle was a little soggy. The chocolate ball was like a Pokemon ball, only one we could eat and it had chocolatey goodness. The chocolate nuke could be made better and we did not enjoy the chocolate shake. They need to work on it. Among everything we tried, it was the only thing that spoiled our moods. Since we love chocolate so much, we didn’t think that anything with chocolate in it could ever not taste good until we tried that shake. With so many delicious deserts exploding flavor in our mouths, the day really couldn’t get any better.

Cost:

It costs approximately 500 INR for two people excluding taxes and services. That was the one problem we had with the place that it was fairly overpriced.

Highlights:

Do try their hot chocolate fudge and chocolate ball. Stay away from the chocolate shake till they refine it. You wouldn’t want to spend money and not get its worth.

Verdict:

ChocVault is like a dreamland for chocolate lovers. The place is cozy within other abundant cafes in Hauz Khas village but what differentiates it from the other places is its sole dedication to chocolate. Though a bit overpriced, you will want to try this place at least once for the chocolate lover inside you. It is a guilty pleasure and you can cheat on your diet plans with chocolate.

The mythological celebration that is Varanasi

Hinduism happens to be the most dominant of all the religions in the country, and Varanasi is the holiest of the holy spots for them. It has been there for thousands of years as the centre of holistic and religious practices, Varanasi is located in the North Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. A bus ride from Lucknow will take you here in a few hours of time, and you won’t even have enough time to pump yourself up for the great marvel of a city that you are going to witness.

The hot humid weather welcomes in the months of May-September which are deemed as the best for a visit to the place. As you set foot out of the bus into this wild dream of a city, you know you are in for something very beautiful and an engaging experience which you will take with you to your graves, no one can take that from you. The chaos in the city was exhilarating yet annoying. The economic conditions in the place are not among the best in the country, but beneath that mindless chaos, there is a soul in Varanasi that lies deeper. It touches on the places inside that you didn’t know existed.

The lifeline of the city is the Ganges, the holy river. That works as a two-edged sword, the excuse for the people in here to feel superior to rest of the country and it also provides them their means of living. Let’s explore the things about this enigmatic city that you may visit as you go in there to have an experience.

The Ghats- The highlights of the city, its lifeline for which Varanasi holds a special place among the Indians. Hindus believe that taking their last breaths on one of these ghats is the only medium of achieving true salvation from the cycles of life and death. Located along the banks of the river and spread through the entire city, these Ghats have become synonymous with the city.

Religious centers- Being a religious place, Varanasi has a lot of temples, mosques and other religious monuments within it. Some of the most mentionable temples are Gauri Matha temple, Durga temple, Kaal Bhairav temple, Nepali Hindu temple, Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple and the Sankat mochan temple.

Chunar fort- Known as the oldest structure of its kind, the fort got built about 2000 years ago. This is a wonderful place for the ones who wants to explore the city beyond its religious nature.

Ghats – Look out for different ghats which come in the way across the holy river. Each of these ghats holds an own special place in the religious geography of the city. Visit Ganges River Varanasi to experience the Aarti Ceremony at Dashaswmedh Ghat. The Aarti Ceremony starts after sunset & the duration in the aarti ceremony is 45 minutes approx.

Boat Rides- The boat rides that take place in the sunset or the sunrise are eccentrically beautiful. Listen to the guide who will row the boat (in case it isn’t a motorboat though) as he tells you some wonderful legends about the place.

Shopping in Varanasi is a totally exhilarating experience in itself and Banarasi silk sarees form a crucial part of an Indian bride’s collection. Varanasi offers richly worked saris are known to have passed on from generations to generations.

To satisfy the hunger pangs, one can visit the Dosa Café located at Dasaswamedh Ghat. The special upma, and the variety of dosa’s are delicious. Niyati Café in Varanasi has fewer tables but once the food arrives, you’ll live it and relish every bite. You can try its potato curries, palak paneer and naan to please the foodie in you.

Sarnath located in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh is 10 kms away from the holy city of Varanasi. Sarnath has been a world famous Buddhist site in Varanasi and is embedded with many Stupas worth visiting. The most pleasant time to visit the Sarnath temple is during October to March.

The most important Hindu Pilgrimage in the entire country, Varanasi is also a tourist’s delight, whether they are religious or not.
