Detailed Review on Kanha Jungle Camp- Why is it the Best Forest Stay in India?

Are you planning an adventurous jungle trail or night safari in India? Then, read this complete review of Kanha Jungle Camp and why it is worth considering for your next trip. Get complete insights into the exclusive resort nestled in Kanha National Park, showcasing a glimpse of tribal culture and lifestyle!

We Ghoomophirosisters are fanatics about exploring thrills, adventures, and exciting getaways snuggled with nature’s bliss. Our urge to familiarize ourselves with the local culture and customs of villages in Jungles led us to our next destination, Kanha Jungle Camp. The mesmerizing views and striking beauty of this place took our breaths away at first glance. And mind us, this was just the start.

Situated close to the Mukki Gate of the Kanha National Park, the marvellously curated Kanha Camp resort is a masterpiece of sustainability and conservation in forest realms. Managed and owned by Jungle Camp India, this fantabulous camp resort is spread over 40 acres of reforested lands and links to the buffer (core) jungle zone for direct wildlife encounters.

Quick Overview of the Property

Kanha Jungle Camp offers complete privacy and inclusivity to guests arriving here. It is also a pet-friendly resort, so you won’t have to leave your furry babies back home. Finely adorned rooms, an on-site ecological park, and viewing access to the rich flora and fauna of the region make it an incredible property.

The Indigenous vibes of this forest resort further raised our excitement levels when witnessing the jungle safaris here. We Ghoomoohirosisters spotted the perfect amalgamation of a comfortable stay amidst nature at this place. It was like a dream come true for us, indeed!

Right from the moment we stepped into Kanha National Park, the wilderness around us engrossed us, and we eagerly waited for a face-off with the fierce residents. Kudos to the efforts of the Jungle camps, who acquired 40 acres of land here and transformed it into an abode of sal forests.

While enquiring with the courteous service staff here, we got to know that the Kanha Jungle Camp beholds 17 cottages, a restaurant, a villa, and even a spa or swimming pool to rejuvenate yourselves.

The huge kitchen garden here, ponds, parks, and scenic trails around make you feel like you are living amidst nature’s bounty. After we checked in and just sat in peace for a while with a cup of tea, it was then we knew how magical it is to spend time in jungle resorts and disconnect from the outer world for a while.

It was our third jungle resort expedition, but the excitement of exploring the wild was still the same as the first time!

What Stay Options to Expect at the Kanha Jungle Camp?

There were four types of luxury cottages at the camp resort, and big groups can also book a villa consisting of three bedrooms. We Ghoomophirosisters opted for the premium cottage, offering uninterrupted jungle views and a private deck to observe the close movements of flora and fauna. Guess what—you can even get views from the washrooms! Isn’t that amazing?

Our cottage has a huge space of over 600 Sq.ft., along with an en-suite washroom and a sit-out balcony. All rooms here are temperature-controlled to make you feel comfy in any weather, and there are essential in-room facilities like a tea or coffee maker, toiletries, and other things.

Every cottage comprises stunning artworks on walls depicting the tribal culture and lifestyle in India. It was interesting to take a slow walk across the property and notice the fine intricacies of architecture here.

Food Time at Kanha Jungle Camp

We Ghoomophirosisters truly loved the authentic food flavours served at the in-house restaurant situated next to its reception area. The wide variety of food items, including rice, dal, a choice of mixed vegetables, salad assortments, curries, and even a few non-veg cuisines, makes it a viable option for everyone.

Guests coming for special occasions or with their kids can also ask the restaurant staff for specific food items, and they can assist with the same. We were feeling acidic due to the continuous journey of several hours, so we asked them for refreshing beverages, which they helped us with.

Host of Things to Do at Kanha Jungle Camp- Make Memories!

Bush Dinner

Couples and families arriving here also preferred eating their meals in the wild below the open skies, and the cam staff made arrangements for it. You can choose a perfect spot for stargazing, have a simple meal with your beloved spouse, and chat for hours to strengthen your bond.

We Ghoomophirosisters had a bush dinner here at the side spot inside the resort, which was lit all over by traditional lanterns. There was pin-drop silence around. What an evening it was when we recalled our childhood memories and those silly fights! Do not miss bush dinner when you’re here.

Safari Drives

Jungle Safari is an obvious main motive for visiting the Kanha Jungle Camp, and the team here is spontaneous in making arrangements for their guests. Their professional team of Jungle guides and naturalists can plan the complete Safari trip from pick to drop for a hassle-free experience!

We advise you to request a naturalist guide instead of a government guide for a better experience on the tour to Kanha National Park. Many guests also pre-book the safari online for a seamless experience.

One thing we Ghoomophirosisters want to convey to our readers is that Forest climates are very different from city ones and can change at any moment. So, it is recommended to carry a few essentials, such as a scarf, jacket, woollen scarf, hat, and sunglasses. Keep them handy while heading for the safari or bicycle tour.

Tour to Nearby Villages

Curb your curiosity to explore the local culture and customs with a day tour of the village in Kanha National Park. The village is located in the buffer area of this National reserve, and travelling here can take you to an entirely different world.

What we liked about the Kanha Jungle Camp was its efforts to preserve the culture and way of life of the Gond tribe. It was inspiring to watch them work so hard to gather crops for food, make arts and crafts to sell outside for a living, and build their own houses. Life is really tough for them. We recommend you visit the Bhima village here on your next trip to Kanha and get familiar with their lifestyle.

Baiga Tribal Dance at Kanha Camp Resort

We Ghoomophirosisters witnessed the wonderful dance performance of the Baigas here at Kanha Jungle camp. Vibrant costumes, eclectic energy levels and the perfect sync of hand and foot moves of their troops were mind-boggling.

Despite their heavily adorned costumes, bulky jewellery, and huge headgear, they were dancing in great flow, which shows their level of dedication to the art. For the first time, we saw men playing a wooden instrument known as ‘Thiski’ over there.

Nature Trails

As real adventure lovers and nature explorers, we Ghoomophirosisters couldn’t miss out on the opportunity to go on the walk in the wilds. The captivating scenery of this place and the company of an experienced naturalist, along with us, further elevated the experience of the trail to the National Park.

Thanks to the knowledgeable company alongside, we learned about the plant used for making vermillion (sindoor) in old times and about the Sal forests restored there. There are numerous hiking trails to explore the jungle interiors here, and we opted for the shortest one, which took just about 30 minutes.

Can’t Miss the Sundowner!

After the intriguing nature trail, it was time to unwind and cherish the magical sunset from a small hilltop. The Kanha Jungle camp had arranged the sundowner party. We enjoyed the blissful and scenic moments here.

Bicycle Rides

If you love two-wheeler rides in the wilds, rent a bicycle from the camp resort at nominal charges and explore the nearby trails to satisfy your curiosity. Check out the available options with them and head out for a wonderful expedition to enjoy time with yourself in solemnity.

Besides, the Kanha Jungle camp also pampers you with a relaxing spa centre to relieve yourselves and a dedicated kid’s pool for some fun splash times with greens around!

Reachability

We Ghoomophirosisters travelled for 11 Km from the Mukkai gate in Kanha National Park to reach the camp resort nestled in the Santapur village of Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat district. Raipur is the nearest airstrip, situated at a distance of 180 Km from the destination. Gondia is the closest railway station, around 125 Km away and at a drive of almost 3 hours.

Bottom Line- 5 Stars for the Amazing Stay Experience!

In all, the journey to this lush foliage enriched with tigers, leopards, and a diverse variety of other flora and fauna was astonishing. We highly recommend booking Kanha Jungle Camp for your next safari getaway. Book your stay now to get the best offers and availability.

Sprawling over fifty acres of lush foliage, this jungle camp’s rustic setting is surprisingly equipped with all modern facilities and luxuries.

If you ask us to define the Pench Jungle camp in one word, it’s ‘INCREDIBLE!’

Take it From the Start- Overview

Our long-awaited plan for a jungle safari finally reached its destination, and we chose Pench Jungle Camp for a weekend getaway. As we reached the secluded camp spot, the scenic arrangement of the cottages, well-maintained lawns, and the hospitality of the guests took our sight. They stand strong by their principle of providing an ultimate stay experience for their guests, and we literally felt that!

As they claim, the team of Pench Jungle Camp are naturalists who strive hard to restore nature’s precious belongings without compromising the comfort of guests arriving at their den. It was also interesting to learn about the multiple awards and accolades earned by the Pench Jungle Camp to create and restore the nature-friendly staycation, with hosts of experiences and activities planned for the tourists arriving here.

And the Trip Begins!

The moment we checked in and took a quick tour of the property, we saw serene landscapes and luxurious vegetation around us. Whether you wish to spend some relaxed moments in the lap of nature or cherish wildlife tours, Pench Jungle Camp won’t turn you down.

Anyone planning to enter this wildlife zone through the Turia Gate of Madhya Pradesh must consider Pench Jungle Camp on their bucket list. It is an exotic holiday destination with all modern amenities and a masterpiece of beauty amidst the wild.  We encountered several unique bird species chirping around the place and unusual but soothing sounds of nature, which enchanted our hearts thoroughly. We also learned that the camp has recently undergone renovation work to upgrade the level of luxury and comfort for the people arriving here.

Hospitality and Facilities at Pench Jungle Camp

From leisure to adventure, there’s nothing you will miss on your stay at Pench Jungle Camp!  Surrounded by lush greenery on all sides, this wonderful resort allows you an escape to explore the wildlife and nature’s surreal side. We Ghoomophirosisters cherish the warm hospitality of the staff here, and they offer tailored experiences as per the demands of their guests. Right from the elegant stay to indulging meals and the leisure time here, everything was just perfect!

Stay Options at Pench Jungle Camp

There are four accommodation options for your stay at the Pench Jungle Camp, including Luxury Safari tents, Deluxe Safari Cottages, Standard Safari rooms, and the Family Suite. Each is amazing in its own way and offers a unique stay experience.

We at Ghoomophirosisters opted for luxury tents to embrace the utmost comfort and facilities. However, other tent options here are also well-equipped and have a comfortable ambiance.

Pench Jungle Camp also offers one-bedroom tents equipped with modern facilities such as a tea/coffee maker, air conditioners, and many others. The place also has a dedicated verandah, where you can enjoy amazing forest sights while sipping your favorite tea. There are also theme-based cottages here, which replicate the culture and accommodation of the villages located around the National Park.

We Ghoomohirosisters also recommend their family suite rooms for 4-6 members if you wish to cherish the home-like experience of being here. The standard safari rooms are also decent enough, offering all the necessary facilities and an elegant stay option. It was impressive to find so many stay options in the middle of a massive National Park!

Food Experience at Pench Jungle Camp

After hopping around the property for a couple of hours, we Ghoomophirosisters were really hungry and wanted to munch on some really authentic meals at the Jungle camp. We were expecting the basic meal options at the Pench Jungle camp, but their dining facilities were beyond our expectations!

The mindfully designed in-house restaurant offers a phenomenal range of Indian, Continental, and Chinese cuisines. A delectable buffet breakfast and an extensive variety of lunch and dinner menus are a sheer treat for all guests. Do not forget to check out the timings for Breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the restaurant upon your arrival here.

What’s More to Explore at the Pench Jungle Camp?

Besides the impeccable services and luxurious accommodation options, there’s a lot at Pench Jungle camp to keep the visitors engrossed. Here’s a detailed note on it:

  • We, Ghoomophirosisters, really enjoyed the location and vibe of the outdoor swimming pool here. It offers an uninterrupted view of the dense Mahua and Teak trees. It is refreshing to revive your inner energies and take a dip in the blues surrounded by greens!
  • The authentic Spa and Wellness center located here is bound to rejuvenate your soul and body from within. Our experience says that it’s worth taking a massage with qualified therapists and trained masseurs.
  • If you are wondering about returning a souvenir from the Pench Jungle camp, visit the gift shop located right next to the lodge entrance. The shop exhibits a spectacular range of Indian products such as crafts, Jewelry, luggage, décor items, small gifts, and Jewelry items.
  • Guests arriving here can expect many other facilities, like free Wi-Fi, though it might not work much due to dense forests, the library, and laundry services.

Experiences to Cherish at Pench!

Whether you visit Pench Jungle camp to spend quality time with loved ones or witness the thrill of night spotlight jungle safaris, the place promises it all under one roof!

  • We spotted families enjoying get-togethers with the special bush dinners organized by the managerial staff in a dedicated spot. The cozy ambiance is worth the experience.
  • The sundowner at the Khoka Lake near Pench Jungle camp was an unforgettable evening for us, the Ghoomophirosisters. The sunset views with a well-sit riverside set-up were blissful. The camp staff arranged an Open Safari Jeep drive of around 6 km to Khoka Lake, and the journey itself was thrilling.
  • If you are visiting here in a group, count on the party mode, as the Bonfire arrangements with Barbecues and sit-outs amidst the lush greenery give a dreamy feeling.
  • We Ghoomohphirosisters also had a wonderful outdoor breakfast experience as they made it a point to set up aloof arrangements for enjoying breakfast between the greens.
  • Couples can spark their romance with poolside candle-lit dinners or Gazebo dinner arrangements, which allow complete privacy and endless talks worth cherishing for a lifetime.

Time for the Jungle Safaris- Wild Life Awaits!

We Ghoomophirosisters booked both the daytime jungle safari ride and even the night safari to capture every natural wonder residing in Pench National Park. As we headed for the morning safari ride, we were able to spot many active animals, including the iconic Tiger of Pench.

Open jeeps allow you to grab a panoramic view of the whole reserve. The Safari ride starts from the Turia gate, and it takes around 4-5 hours to complete the entire tour.

Night Safari Expedition!

We Ghoomophirosisters also explored the night safari, also known as the wolf safari, here. As it was summer, we were lucky enough to spot many wild animal species, such as sambar deer, jackals, nocturnal birds, leopards, tigers, and nilgai. The special nighttime spotlight safari tour is conducted in an area of 484 sqm. It begins at 6.00 PM and continues until 9 PM.

Our safari guide told us that night safari bookings can be made only after arriving here, and they’re restricted to the buffer zone. This is the core forest area where the animal population is dense, and you can witness uncommon animal species.

Other excursions to enjoy at the Pench Jungle Camp are Cycle Safaris, a Nature Trail, a walk to the 38-acre private eco-park, a visit to nearby Potter’s village, a Drive to Rukhad, Bird watching, a Bicycle trip, and a lot more.

Time to Go Back Home!

The trip to Pench Jungle Camp was filled with thrills, adventure, leisure, and fun. We can definitely rate it 4.5 on a scale of 5. The spacious and clean stay, courteous staff, and amazing arrangements made us enjoy every moment here.

We Ghoomophirosisters truly recommend this getaway amidst the wild. It is pet-friendly, so your four-legged companions can also accompany you. There are e-rickshaws for commuting senior citizens and ample facilities for kids, making it a family spot.

Let us know if you have any other queries on it!

Review : The Gateway Resort Damdama Lake, Gurugram

The Gateway Resort is Gurugram is a perfect place for a short getaway. Travel to nearby places and relax in luxury with nature surrounding the marvelous resort. Located near Damdama Lake, the resort is known for being extravagantly beautiful. The resort will let you experience a mixture of urban and nomadic life. We got the chance to stay at The Gateway Resort which is spread over 20 acres on a weekend and we couldn’t stop ourselves from sharing the entire experience.

How to Reach?

From Delhi Airport, the resort is located at a 58 km distance and it takes about one hour to reach the resort. Amidst the Aravalli Hills, the resort is located right near Damdama Lake. It is a well-sought out of the getaway place for people living in Delhi, Faridabad, and Noida.

Check-in and check-out.

Check-in from 3:00 PM

Check-out till 12:00 PM

Option for Early check-in and late check-out also available on request.

Why should you visit The Taj Gateway Resort?

We had a fantastic stay at the resort and it was just the perfect getaway from the busy city life. The great outdoors with a view of the Lake and rich hospitality of the staff made for a relaxing weekend. Since it is a luxury resort, all our needs were catered to and the staff was nice beyond expectations. Though the resort almost always has pre-bookings, it does not seem crowded. Spread across 20 acres of land, it leaves enough individual space for every traveler staying there. We had our private space, quiet and calm in the lap of nature. The green garden is great for relaxing walks and the viewpoint is suitable for Instagram-worthy pictures.

Types of Rooms:

We stayed in the Deluxe Resort Room but there are three options available. There is Superior Room Category which has similar to Deluxe category room, only cheaper and without a Bathtub. The suite was the most luxurious option and the Deluxe room fell somewhere in the middle. The rooms were spacious and had an attached bathroom. All the modern amenities, toiletries were available and there was a garden sit-out area. There were chairs where we sat in the garden and got the view of lush greenery. There was free wifi facility, king size bed, attached bath and a walk-in wardrobe. The rooms were clean and well-maintained.

Ambiance:

As soon as we entered the resort, we were greeted by the staff in a lobby made of glass and red store. The ambiance of the resort is luxuriously wild. They had top-class facilities with a nomadic feel. The entire property is stunning. The combined architecture of wood, stone, and glass gives a classy interior vibe. The greenery is used for aesthetic benefits and couples came to the resort for pre-wedding shoots. We saw some during our stay in the resort.

Activities available:

There are many complimentary as well as paid activities available in the resort. There is a fully-equipped fitness center which we did not use because we were there to relax instead of working out. But for gym freaks, the resort has the latest gym equipment, steam room as well as a Jacuzzi. We did enjoy the Taj spa with relaxing treatments. They have many services and I went for a rejuvenation treatment. The massage went on for 60 minutes and left me feeling quite relaxed afterward.

The pool is open to all and they had a kid’s pool next to the main pool. We did enjoy some non-alcoholic drinks at the pool-bar ‘Splash’. The view of the sunset from the poolside must be experienced for making the best out of your stay.

The activity area had options for ziplining and camel rides which are just as fun as they sound, even if they are paid. There is an entire section dedicated to paid activities. There were hanging bridge and wall-climbing activities. You could practice target shooting or archery. We did try the mud-bike but one has to request it. Kids that were staying in the hotel enjoyed bull-riding, bungee jumping and paintball. It made us smile to see them having so much fun. The paid activities are also available in packages so you can save money by choosing any package that you want. There are three options with a nominal fee. They also had a separate area made to be the playground for kids.

If you do not wish to pay for adventure activities, you can also go for complementary activities. We played table tennis in the recreation center, went cycling and there were also other options available like carom, basketball, air hockey, and golf putting.

If visiting with family, one can also try some of the paid group activities that the hotel arranges like Treasure Hunt, Karaoke Night, Bonfire or cricket.

What’s the best thing to enjoy?

The Chimes hill is a secluded spot where we sat and enjoyed the serenity of the surroundings for a long time. The sunset from poolside is an unforgettable memory we have.

What to eat and where?

There are so many options available to choose from. From authentic local cuisines to world-class food, organic and low-calorie meals or your favorite drinks, there is a vast menu to choose from. Starting from the 24 hr coffee shop, “Buzz” serves buffet for all three meals but we chose to dine there only for breakfast. They also had an a la carte menu yet we preferred the sumptuous buffet for the morning. Sian is their Oriental restaurant but we did not like much of anything on their menu. It had a great ambiance so we just ordered a few drinks and left, not knowing that the resort had a nice bar (Swirl) as well. For lunch, we preferred the restaurant by the poolside. The pool-side menu had a barbeque and grilled food and the hotel set-up a nice luncheon for us two. The food was completely organic and healthy. We even explored the other cafes for snacks. Cakes and Bakes had a nice range of pastries but the coffee shop remained our best dining place.

What was lacking?

We could not get a complete tour of the property because the golf cart broke down. But whenever they could, the staff made up for all minor issues. Any of the concerns that we had regarding pool heating or restricted menu were addressed.

Places to see nearby:

The best part about staying at The Gateway Resort is that all places worth seeing are nearby. The Damdama Lake known popularly for the migratory birds that arrive there during summers is merely 2 km away. We saw different species of birds like cranes, kingfishers, terns and waterfowl. On the way to the lake, we also spotted Neel gai and peacocks. We went boating in the lake since the atmosphere was so calm and scenic. There also many adventure sports activities available near the lake.

Bathe in the Hot springs:

Hot Springs of Sohna Town are 11 km away from the resort and the water in the hot spring is highly relaxing. It even has mythological importance than it is known for curing diseases since one of the Pandavas had dug it.

Pray at the ancient Shiva Temple:

In Sohna town only, there is a famous ancient Shiva Temple. If you are religious, you can visit the temple and offer prayers. Generally, it is not crowded except for the days of Shiv Ratri or another important festival when there is a grand celebration in the temple.

Complete Overview:

Our stay at The Gateway Resort was pleasant and memorable. We would like to specially mention the staff that was always courteous and polite during our stay and often went out of their way to make our stay even more comfortable. From our rooms to the facilities, everything was top-notch but that is to be expected from a brand like Taj. The surprise was that it was never noisy despite there being plenty of travelers staying there. We got our space, enjoyed everything, didn’t have to wait too long for the meals and went wherever we wished to without a second thought.

Budget Hotels/ Camps near Pangong Tso Lake

Before choosing the right place for staying near Pangong Tso Lake, you will have to decide how much is your budget and what luxuries do you want. Since it is a remote place, you will have to compromise on comfort. The biggest luxury that you can find is the attached bathroom which would only be available at the most expensive hotel. You can also opt for Homestays that are less expensive, more homely but with shared or outside toilets.

If you wish to stay near the lake, your only option is camping but if you don’t want to stay in camps, you can opt to stay in Sapngmik or Lukung from where you can have a full view of the lake.

Home Stays at Spangmik: Home Stays like Padma, Gongma, Sasoma Guest House all offer accommodation at cheap prices and excellent views. Mostly all homes at Spangmik Village act as homestays and though you won’t find any hot water, you will get home-cooked food in Ladakhi Style.

Price: Rs 700-1000 (meals included in some) for a double bedroom.

Staying close to the lake means staying in tents. Here you can find tented accommodation that is comfortable with electricity for a limited period as well as a western toilet. The pricing is a bit higher but the place is good with a great view.

Price: Rs 3500 with two meals included.

Address: Spangmik Village, Pangong Tso – Ladakh

You can also find Eco Huts in Lukung Village which are luxury tents with electricity and western toilets but it is pricey. (Around 3500-4500 per person) There are many other dormitory-style dhaba tents running from Lukung Village till Spangmik Village. The price range varies from place to place but the maximum would be Rs 3500 and Rs 500 minimum. Most of them will offer meals and western toilets.

Additional Tip: Avoid visiting the Lake in harsh winters but even if you do, stay at Tangste instead of Lukung or Spangmik to give your body a chance to acclimate itself according to the high altitude. You can find discounted prices for some of the resort and camps but no pre-booking for Home Stays

Luxury amidst History; visit Taj Surajkund, Delhi

Staying at a Taj property is always a pleasure and Vivanta in Surajkund is a beautiful property surrounded by trees and greenery. Moreover, it is an eco-friendly property spread over 15,500 square feet, situated near Surajkund Lake. It is a 5-star hotel that is built near a historical site and the design and the aura of the place reflect it.

Surrounded by the Aravallis, it is a luxury resort that believes in the tranquillity of nature. There was an air of privacy when we stayed there and everyone seems to mind their own business. Taj Surajkund is a getaway because it is a short drive away from the hustle-bustle of the city and as soon as we entered the place, we were amazed by the concept it was built on- Baoli-like.

How to Reach?

Vivanta by Taj, Surajkund is located 11 km from Saket, 18 km from New Delhi City Centre and 23 km from Indira Gandhi International Airport. It is a luxurious hotel situated in Faridabad. One can easily reach the place by car and it is visible on Google Maps.

Rooms:

There are 9 types of rooms available and you can choose what is most suitable for you according to the price and facilities. We chose to stay in the Bliss suite which covers 2000 sq ft area. The Bliss suite is true to its name. With a spacious bathroom and a relaxing bathtub, huge living room and gorgeous bedroom, we felt like we had made the right choice choosing it. The terrace area had a private lawn overlooking the entrance gate of the resort. The suite also had a minibar, two televisions, a dining room and an additional bathroom. The room was comfortable for our stay and also clean and well-maintained.

The premium Indulgence room has a minimalistic look apart from the large verandah and a fantastic view of greenery. It had a walk-in shower and also a walk-in closet. We had our choices but we chose the Bliss suite because it fit our taste more and its décor was quite elegant. It had wooden flooring and soundproof walls. The rooms in Taj hotel are the embodiment of luxury and make you feel pampered.

Ambiance:

The hotel has an exotic ambiance. Surrounded by greenery on the outside, the lobby looks stunning. The furnishing in the lobby is not modern but it suits the ambiance well. There’s a pottery studio as well where kids enjoy but anyone can stay for a pottery workshop. Taj Surajkund does have the getaway vibe because one starts relaxing as soon as one enters the place. The staff takes care of everything and every little amenity is put there for your luxury.

Services:

Along with free wi-fi and complimentary parking, Vivanta Surajkund has a marvelous infinity pool. There are Cabanas and sun-beds around the pool which is a perfect place to chill and enjoy a couple of drinks. The terrace has a sitting space where guests can enjoy the sunset and the rooms have all the amenities. Each room has high-quality air-conditioning, toiletries, bathrobes, hair-dryer, slippers, mini-bar and even a small kitchen. The staff makes check-in easier and it also has a luggage storage area. One can also book a tour of the nearby places from the tour desk.

We availed their spa services and got a “Pehelvaan Malish” which was meant to relive our sore and stiff muscles. It was a deep-tissue massage and the masseuse was well-trained. She applied mustard oil on our body and massaged it till we felt relaxed and our body gleamed. After we walked out from the massage parlour our bodies felt so much lighter. It was a 90-minute long massage but sure felt like it ended too quickly because we were enjoying it so much. The entrance to the spa has a unique theme inspired by a “baoli”. They also had a couples treatment therapy room but one must book an appointment beforehand. The fitness centre was also well-equipped and the hotel provides daily newspaper and laundry service as well.

Where to eat?

Eating at Vivanta Surajkund can poke a hole in your pocket. Though they have world-class cuisines with high-quality delicious food, it is all quite expensive. Yet, since the hotel is situated at a property where you won’t find a fast food joint nearby, you have no option but to choose from among the options. We had our breakfast at Paranda and went to dine for lunch in Tado. Finally, our dinner was at Oasis which serves Indian, Chinese and even Italian food. Since we were there for the weekend, we enjoyed free-flow beverages with Sunday brunch. The bar in the hotel has an extensive cocktail and mocktail menu. We tried a Grilled Pineapple and Cracked pepper Martini which was a unique drink for us. Oasis has a better ambiance than Paranda but Paranda has a Dhaba-type set-up with delicious local cuisines. The restaurant had quick service and served wonderful food. We regretted not having booked a weekend meal plan while booking the place since eve the buffet meals put a dent in our pocket.

What needs to be better:

While the location of the hotel is fantastic, the only thing they need to work on is their meal prices because the food was overpriced even according to 5-star standards. Having lived at many other Taj properties, we could tell. If you don’t opt for a meal-inclusive plan, it could be quite expensive and there is no place nearby where one can go for having food. Moreover, there needs to be more activities available for the entertainment of the guests.

Verdict:

Overall, our experience at Taj Surajkund was good. We didn’t wander out to see many places nearby even though the beautiful Surajkund Lake is not too far away. The rooms were comfortable and the room service was excellent. The hospitality of Taj employees was unmatched as always. The only trouble we had was that there was not much to do. Apart from walks in the garden, the pottery workshop and spa, there are not many activities one can participate in. We did spend a lot of time in our room, just resting and watching TV which is something we do not usually do. One weekend at the Taj Surajkund feels like enough time to enjoy the place without getting bored.

Places to see nearby:

Surajkund Lake is just 0.7 km from Vivanta Surajkund. It is a 10th-century sun pool that has been converted into a tourist destination.

Visit Baba Farid’s Tomb which is the tomb of an ancient Sufi saint.

Go see Raja Nahar Singh Fort and shop at the market nearby.

ITC Sheraton – an awesome hotel for your next visit to Kuala Lumpur

During our last trip to Malaysia, we stayed at ITC Sheraton. Located in the city center of Kuala Lumpur and just steps away from the city monorail and LRT (Light Rail Transit) lines via Dang Wangi Station) and Monorail via Medan Tuanku Station. It sits amidst amazing tourist destination nearby including Chinatown (15minutes), Buli Bintang (10 minutes), Central Market (10minutes), HSC Medical Center (15 minutes), Prince Court Medical Center (15 minutes)and National Heart Institute (15 minutes). Both Kuala Lumpur International Airport 1 and 2 are only an hour’s drive and airport transportation is available. Moreover, it provides airport transportation. Moreover, over our long history of international tours ‘Sheraton’ has become a trusted brand name with us and we have often come to depend on it over time.

This amazing hotel has nearly 400 rooms – some smoking and other non-smoking. Our rooms – the standard ones were amply spacious, tidy and well-ventilated with air conditioning, a walk-in closet, nice comfortable pillows, clean toilets, and flat television screens. The rooms came with safe and ironing facilities. The toilets had free toiletries as well as a bathtub. The suites, VIP rooms, and family rooms are also available. Of course, room service is available. The best thing about the rooms though was the presence of a mini bar in the room. There is also a business center and facilities for holding conferences – making it perfect for business tours.

The hotel provides free high-speed WiFi internet, an outdoor swimming pool we took full advantage of, a fitness center with Gym or workout room – which is a facility of great importance for someone like us who travel a lot. There was also a lounge with a bar. And we highly recommend taking advantage of the Mandara spa here. Free parking facility available and they also avail rental cars.

The front desk is opened all hours and can be approached for currency exchange, tour arrangements, concierge services, etc. The staff was friendly, eager to serve and hospitable – all smiles and well informed as they answered our often stupid questions and put up with our mildly annoying eccentricities.

The best part about ITC Sheraton though is amazing food. Delicious varieties of local as well as international seafood are available in as many as 5 in-house dining options. Its Celestial Court restaurant offers authentic seafood which we, Ghoomophiro Sisters, could never have enough of. If you are looking for something romantic, Villa Danieli is the place for you. Styled after a rustic country home, it is a free-standing trattoria perfect for romantic Italian dinners. For International Cuisine you can and should try dining at Essence.

The prices are starting from approx 6000 INR and go on to more than double that rate. Given its prime location in a spot which attracts tourists from all over the world and the incredible perks it offers, we found the price very reasonable. The panoramic views of skyline available from the building and some of the open spaces made it seem like a lot to us.

Much like other Sheraton hotels, ITC Sheraton at Kuala Lumpur more than met our expectations. They have a way of being a one-stop solution to all your tourist needs and still managing to delight you. Their high rating of 8.7 at Booking.com is for very good reasons. Thus we personally highly recommend ITC if Malaysia (Truly Asia) is your next tourist destination.

Check-in & Check out

Check-in from 2:00 PM

Check-out till 12:00 PM

Early check-in and late check-out options available but it would be chargeable.

Best time to visit :

The best time to visit the Gateway resort is during summers. Monsoon is the off-season so you might get a discount on your booking but summers are when you will be able to spot lions in the Gir Forest. Winters are also quite pleasant here.

About The Gateway Resort:

Gir Forest was always on our travelling bucket list and when we finally visited, Th Gateway Resort looked like the best accommodation. Situated right near the forest, it had a calm and serene atmosphere. Moreover, we trust the comfort and hospitality of Taj. The Gateway Resort is located 60 km away from the city centre, in Sasan Gir. It is a premium resort with the best location, overlooking a rivulet and close to the forest. But the convenient location is the only highlight of the place as we felt after our stay that this property of Taj is quite ignored and below the usual standards. There are many facilities available as per the brochure or their website but when you visit, the situation is quite contrary.

Types of Rooms:

There are five different types of rooms available and 28 rooms in total on the entire property. There is Standard Room Garden View Queen Bed, Superior Room With Sit-out River View Double Bed, Superior Room With Sit-out River View Twin Bed, Executive Suite With Sit-out River View Double Bed, Deluxe Suite With Sit-out River View Double Bed.

We chose to stay in the Deluxe room with a Rive view. There was a balcony where we could sit out and enjoy the view of the lush green jungles. The rooms were well-furnished and had all amenities, including free Wi-fi which one wouldn’t expect near a jungle. The air-conditioning was not as strong as it should have been but perhaps the humid atmosphere of the place could somehow be responsible for it. The TV screen in our room remained turned off because we were too busy exploring everything else. The room also had a tea and coffee maker, along with iron and an ironing board. The room had a veranda and was quite spacious and clean. We stayed in the resort for the weekend and the riverside location is just a short drive away from the Safari Park. We did have 24×7 room service but it wasn’t as quick or efficient as we wanted it to be.

What does the hotel have to offer?

There are many facilities available like the fitness center that only has two treadmills, outdoor pool which is always short on towels or drinking water, spa with the masseuse being too hard on your muscles and a garden which has to be the best of all places to unwind. When we chose Taj we expected top-notch facilities but perhaps because of their lack of staff or the resort being in such remote area, it was a good accommodation but did not match to the standards of Taj. It was a homely atmosphere but not as luxurious. We spotted some leopards right outside the hotel and it was exciting to see them so close. The garden area has sitting space as well and we spent a lot of our time there. The hotel will help you book a safari in the Gir forest and bird-watching activities as well. Nature lovers would love to spend time on this property and relax in the lap of nature. The wild trees and the exotic feel of the Gir forests will render anyone mesmerized.

What to eat?

The hotel has a restaurant that serves diverse cuisines. The international dishes were not up to the mark and lacked the distinct exotic taste but the Indian dishes were delicious. They had customized their menu to accommodate local dishes and we did try some Gujarati food. The taste was delicious and it was served with a homely feel. Considering that it was a multi-cuisine restaurant, we expected even the international dishes to be of a high standard but were disappointed with what was served to us.

What needs to improve?

The facilities at the spa need to improve because the staff does not have proper training. Some of the areas were not as clean as needed to be. The fabric of the sofa and other sitting spaces was worn down. The staff is helpful when asked to do something but is unwilling to take initiative in offering hospitality. They also need to work a little harder on their international cuisines.

What did we like?

When we got ready for the morning Safari, as early as 6 am, we found coffee and tea waiting for us when we reached the lobby. The staff was courteous and though we were bummed about not getting a welcome drink after our long drive to the resort, this made up for it. Everything was hygienic, clean and well-maintained. The ambiance and the aura of the resort were rustic and serene.

Places to visit Nearby:

Sasan Gir: Go on a Safari and spot wild Asiatic Lions. Bird-watching is another popular activity in the forest. Gir National Park is huge in area and covers 1,412 sq km. As soon as you enter the forest, you are hit by the instant brown shade of everything. If you visit Gir Forest, you won’t be able to walk out without spotting a lion.

Kankai Mata Temple: 50 km from Sasan Gir, there is a shrine dedicated to Kankai Mata who is believed to be the benefactor of the shepherds and nomads.

Mahabat Maqbara and Jammi Mosque: It is an exquisite architecture built during the Mughal rule, located in Junagadh. It is situated near the Junagadh Railway station.

Overall Verdict:

Our visit to the Gir Forest was fantastic. It was all that we expected and more. Being so close to wildlife is always enthralling and we got some beautiful pictures of the area as well. And as for The Gateway Resort, it is a good accommodation with all necessary facilities. One can have a nice and comfortable stay there but do not book it expecting Taj level hospitality and facilities. More attention should be paid to this beautiful property to improve its standards. The location is its prime advantage but it needs to provide much better facilities to attract more tourists. The hotel staff should inform the people staying there about offers, safaris and what special facilities they offer. They respond when you ask at the reception but it is something they should take initiative about.

In the clouds at Genting Highland Resort, Malaysia

Address: Genting Highland Resort, Genting Highlands, Malaysia.

How to get here: Getting here is quite easy with shuttle service. With Awana Skyway Resort World Genting’s cable car system, cable cars carry the passengers every hour ascending from Awana Station to SkyAvenue station. The glass floor Gondola ride gives a great view across the 620 meters of cable. You can start enjoying the sights even on the journey. There is hassle-free transport between shuttle stations and resort. It is also conveniently accessed by a 45-minute ride from Kuala Lumpur.

The resort hotel is a bright and stylish hotel that brings freshness to its modern decor. Set amidst the majestic landscape, this hotel also provides a breathtaking view and all the cool comforts. It is a high altitude resort set amidst the Genting Highlands of Malaysia. The weather is always refreshing in this part. As you walk in, you get the view of the decent lobby and the bellman is there to help you. When we entered our room, we were delighted to see that our room gave us a lavish view of the amusement park. The elevator signs took a little getting used to but after a while, we understood the arrows and signs.

Room: The room has a modern interior and it was very clean and cozy. We had the super deluxe double bed for our luxury and the staff was cooperative and polite. The room was up to standards but the only problem was that there was no WiFi connectivity. That was only available in the lobby. There are a bunch of options available for the type of room you want and we went with the deluxe option. It suited our needs and was quite comfy. With carpet flooring, in-room safe and sitting are available, it was all one could ask of the hotel.

Amenities and Services: Highlight of the Resort is the huge Genting theme park attached to it which is surrounded by a great view. We stayed in the deluxe room and it had all the modern luxury facilities. Getting back to the room after visiting the theme park was very relaxing. The room was spacious as well as comfortable. There was one small herbal shop around the corner and we delighted in their soups. Most of the facilities are within walking distance and the staff is ever so helpful. A basic set of toiletries were provided such as hairdryer, bathrobes, along with tea/coffee maker, LCD Tv, and express laundry service. The food, however, wasn’t fantastic and we preferred to eat outside. There is a Bar & Lounge if you feel in the mood for a few drinks and a Casino for trying your hand at gambling.

Food:

Some of the best places to eat that we found were Cafes Richard. As soon as we arrived at SkyAvenue, it was the first place we went for some coffee. Here, the customers can experience genuine French art with original coffees and French food. Do try their espresso.

Later, we ended up at Motorino. That is the best Pizza place baked in wooden ovens. This is the best authentic Italian pizza restaurant chain.

We also had our meals at Food factory in Genting Highlands. There was a wide variety of food choices here and even a chocolate fountain. We had our meal buffet style. There were many options for vegetarian food and we were surprised to find Rotis available.

Highlights: The theme park, though crowded remained the highlight of our stay here. One can easily spend the whole day there, enjoying different rides and activities. Many retail shops and restaurants are also readily available without having to go too far for it.

Verdict: We had a great time during our stay at this resort and would recommend it to every fellow traveler visiting Genting Highlands in Malaysia. Just opt out of the breakfast option and instead go out and eat the local cuisines. Do try out the casino and the theme park. It is all part of the overall experience which you will not want to miss.
