Devotees will again get to have a glimpse of the Shri Badrinath shrine in Uttarakhand from May 18, 2021, after remaining closed throughout the winter session. Situated in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, the holy gates of this pilgrimage site remain closed every year just after the Diwali due to the setting of winters as the region remains blanketed under thick layers of snow.
According to the Chardham Devasthanam Board official, the pious shrine shall reopen its gates at 4:15 am on May 18.
The auspicious reopening ceremony of this Himalayan shrine was decided at a ceremony that was going on in the occasion of Basant Panchami on February 16, 2021, held at Narendra Nagar palace, which serves as a home to the erstwhile Tehri royal family.
Gadu Ghada, the oil pitcher that is sent from the palace to the temple before the reopening of the Badrinath shrine will start on with its journey to the pious place on April 29, 2021. The pitcher is used for reopening the ceremonial ritual of the temple.
Badrinath is famed to be one of the char dhams amongst the pilgrimage circuit of Uttarakhand. Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri is the remaining three. Due to the outbreak of such a pandemic era, the reopening of the holy site got delayed this year. The date for the reopening of Kedarnath remains shrouded in mystery as of now.
Apart from the char dhams that has been mentioned here, there are many other revered places of worship in Uttarakhand that closes its door due to the winter season and reopens again during spring. Tungnath and Madamaheshwar are among the two such temples.
