A Foodie evening at Ocean Deck Resort

During my recent trips to Karwar, I got to experience the amazing home stay at Ocean Deck Resort. It is a beautiful island that truly depicts home away from home. Though due to lack of time, I thought to drop the idea of going there, but after hearing so much about the place, I went, and must say, my food journey would have been incomplete, if I wouldn’t have come there. What makes this place more unique and offers comfortable stay is bcoz to its owner Mr.Vinay, who is always energized and ensures the best stay for his customers. Review here is based on my stay, food and definitely quick conversations with the people staying. The place is easily accessible with Dabolim airport at a distance of 100Kms. Pick & Drop can be arranged on request. Here are highlights of the place as experienced by me.
1) If you want to experience a homestay in Karwar, this is the place you would want to be. Listed in lonely planet, for its amazing location and hospitality, this place is always the top choice for repeat guests at Karwar.
2) Since the homestay is just 5 Kms away from Karwar Museum , Devbagh beach and 60 Km away from Gokarna Beach, there are ample places to roam around, if you have a weekend in hand and you are eager to explore the in and around the place.

3) If you are foodie, nothing can beat them in Karwar. I happen to eat vegetarian variants, which I have never heard of. Be it Karela chakri or fried bhindis, everything has its own charm. Lime water was super with perfect blend of lemon and sugar to quench your thirst. I wish I could pack some. Sea-food is good and place is heaven for sea-food lovers. During your stay, you can do fishing and can get the same for dinner. Apparently, all you need is to order for the fish you would like to eat and you can have the same in your scrumptious meal.

  

4) The place is run by the Mr.Vinay who acts as host, chef, and waiter. He stays there itself and ensures that all his guests are being taken care of properly. This is what makes the place all the more experiential and your stay more memorable.

5) The place provides plethora of activities wherein you can indulge yourself. They include Machine boat ride, beach trekking, Kayaking, wooden boat ride, river crossing, fishing.

6) Free access to Wi-fi. You can remain connected to your folks all the time and can share live updates while making them jealous

7) The place is completely in the lap of nature, with a beautiful setting. Backwaters and Devbagh beach make the place more serene and photogenic.


8) Accommodation ranges from suites to fishermen’s room. They are well-furnished with all basic amenities in them.

9) Campfires are arranged every evening upon nightfall and are a great way to relax and soak yourself in the lap of nature.


10) It is indeed value for money, that gives you the opportunity to get lost in nature.
Being a nature lover and foodie together, this place is surely my personal recommendation to those who are looking for an escape from the city buzz.

All about Devbagh Beach Resort, Karwar

Devbagh is a stop for an ardent beach lover. Sun, sand, surf, sea and endless open space, Devbagh is famous for its private beaches, where you can build your dream castles, collect seashells, chase crabs, locating fishermen in boats or just soak yourself in sun and let waves wash away your worries. 3 Kms away i.e just 29 minutes ferry ride from Karwar is situated one of the finest property of  Karnataka Tourism. Devbagh Beach Resort is located in the converging landscape located in Karwar, which is 100 Kms away from Dabolim airport and located at Karnataka–Goa border. Devbagh is at its beautiful best from October to May.

Accommodation: Resort opens a world of pristine natural beauty.  It has got lovely log-hut cottages with a balcony. Rooms are spacious with all modern facilities. The Gol Ghar, is the group dining hall, serves a delectable buffet spread of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisine. The seafood is highly recommended. Fishes served here are usually fresh. Dinner is served on the beaches wherein every evening bon-fire is set up with snacks. Spa here is amazing. Oils and other ingredients used are purely herbal.

Activities: Devbagh has something or the other for everyone. 24 hrs are less for you to explore the place completely. If you are an adventurous person, try parasailing, snorkeling (which is being done under the supervision of trained professionals, who ensures complete safety of its guests), banana boat ride, scooter-ride and other water sports. One can also go for speed boat cruises in Arabian sea to spot Dolphins. If you are a nature lover, get up in morning and take a stroll in backwaters and can spot rare birds in mangrove thatches. It is a paradise for bird watchers as conditions are conducive for migratory birds. If you like studying human nature, then a stroll in an adjacent fishing village is a good experience; wherein you can witness how their day starts, to how it ends. It gives a complete picture of a day in fishermen’s life. If a relaxing vacation is on your mind, then soaking in the sun or lazing on a hammock is a good option. One can also cruise up to the confluence of Arabian sea and river Kali. A trek in the jungles is highly recommended and capturing sunrise and sunset is photographer’s delight at the resort. The Place is indeed photogenic.  A day tour to the city is also organized by the resort on request, wherein you can roam around the Karwar. All activities are conducted under strict supervision and interaction with the staff adds lots of value.  The staff here is very courteous. Manager of the lodge makes it a point to spend time with each family staying and take care of their day to day needs. Personal attention is given to all guests. The Pride Hotel, Bengaluru

The Pride Hotel, Bengaluru, is located on Richmomd Road. I had to stay here, during one of the personal visits. Situated at 40 Kms away from airport, it took me 25 min to reach to the hotel, where I was welcomed with warm and courteous staff. Tourist places located close to the hotel include Ulsoor Lake, Cubbon Park, M Chinnaswamy stadium, Bangalore palace and Lal Bagh. This hotel is easily accessible to various key tourist destinations like Bangalore Aquarium and Bal Bhavan.

Food, Amenities and Services – I chose to stay at deluxe category room, which is very spacious, clubbed with all modern amenities that includes LCD, electric kettle, refrigerated mini-bar, free bottled water, locker safe etc. Bathrooms are lavishly designed and fitted with latest fixtures. Hotel offers services like Direct STD and ISD dialing facility, Broadband internet connectivity, Doctor On Call, Travel Desk service, Valet service, gift shop, money exchange, baby sitting laundry and dry cleaning. Ora Spa is a complete experience in itself and helped me in rejuvenating by providing health treatments. The Pride Hotel has a slew of banquet halls and conference rooms each designed for different needs. The Crystal hall features wooden panelling and discreet lights. The Imperial conference hall at The Pride Hotel is an idea venue for business meetings, conferences and seminars. Office staff is humble and courteous. The ambience revitalizes your stay and makes it calm and relaxing. Overall quality of neatness and cleanliness is maintained across hotel and this is evident from the lobby itself. Café Treat is 24 hour coffee shop where one guests can grab quick munchies along with sipping mocktails and unwind themselves. Restro bar is multicuisine restaurant for lunch and dinner. A well thought property for both business travelers and vacationers.

Hotel T.A.P. Gold Crest, Bangalore

Located at a mere distance of 35 Kms approx from airport, and away from city traffic and pollution, TAP gold crest is decent choice for business travelers. It is located on Minerva circle and hence has easy access to Kormangala. Major Tourist destinations around the place includes Cubbon Park (03 km), Lokmanya Tilak Park, Lalbagh Gardens (01 km), M G Road (03 km), Bull Temple, Freedom Park, Bangalore Palace and the MG Road, the city centre of Bangalore.

Food, Amenities and Services – The rooms in the hotel are comfortable and decent to unwind yourself after a hectic day.  All the rooms are neat and clean with attached bathroom that have quality toiletries and shower. Rooms have basic amenities and decent décor. The other facilities include free internet access, newspaper, satellite television and in-room safe, tea coffee maker etc. Highlight of the hotel is 24 hours check in service, that makes stay more comfortable and hassle free for business travelers. Hotel offers business centre which can be used for meetings and conferences. Staff is simple and available 24*7.

Facilities like travel desk, which helps your travel across the city and currency exchange is also present along with laundry and dry cleaning service. Iron board can be provided on request.  An oval shaped Atrium is maintained with pool table and billiards table, where-in guests can relax and make them comfortable. In house restaurant is available, which serves quality and healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner. Buffet spread is value for money and food quality is decent. Staff is courteous and quick to respond to the requests. My locker was not working; they change it immediately when asked for. Overall it gives you a good deal in the low budget. It is a budget hotel with value for money.

Lemon Tree, Electronics City; Bangalore

Located in the heart of Bengaluru’s electronics industrial park on Hosur Main Road, the hotel is in proximity to all major IT giants like Wipro, HP etc making it more suitable for business travelers. Well connected by the new elevated expressway, the hotel is a short 15-minute drive from Koramangala; 40 minutes from M.G. Road; and 30 minutes from Old Airport Road and is approx 63 Kms from the airport.

Food, Amenities and Services – During one of my official visit, I stayed at superior room which is quite spacious with all modern amenities like LCD, tea/coffee making amenities, refrigerated mini-bar, free bottled water, locker safe etc. Room features warm shades of red and abstract prints and offer ‘close to home’ comfort with cozy orthopedic mattresses. Bathrooms are lavishly designed with bathtubs to give you a relaxing experience. Rooms also have a workstation and comfortable chair, and free Wi-Fi which can help you work on your business trip. The hotel also has a spa and fitness center with all modern facilities, so that travelers can have work-out sessions. The ambiance of the lobby is refreshing, contemporary and stylish. The office staff is courteous and is always smiling. They can pamper you to the hilt. Hotel offers variety of dining options. Citrus Café, which is a 24×7 multi-cuisine coffee shop, offers an all-day dining menu including Indian, European, and American and pan-Asian cuisine. Buffet breakfast here serves an array of food items to start your day. Chefs and waiters in this café are very warm and always taking your feedback to make sure everything is in place. Walnut brownie with ice cream is must try. Slounge gives an altogether different experience to the guests where they can play games like chess, pool, PlayStation etc along with sipping drinks and getting cosy and chilled out at the same time. The Republic of Noodles serves pan Asiatic food. Overall, lemon tree hotel is a good choice for both leisure and business travelers

Keys Hotel, Whitefield;Bangalore

Located in the heart of Bengaluru’s IT hub, Keys hotel is always on the list of business travelers due to its proximity to offices in Whitefield. It is at a distance of about 40 kms from Bangalore International airport and 20Kms from the railway station. Special rooms are there for differently-abled travelers and women solo travelers. Hotel also boasts of swimming pool where you can relax yourself, and a fitness center with all modern equipment for guests to enjoy their work-outs. Business centre is also available wherein conferencing facilities are present. Office staff is humble and ready to help its guests 24*7. Hotel offers variety of dining options. Key’s café offers an array of options on its breakfast menu. It is a multi-cuisine24*7 restaurant where-in guests can satiate their food cravings. Unlock bar is a lounge where-in you can truly unlock yourself post your hectic business tasks. Here you can unwind yourself with great music, pool tables, ambiance and variety of quick bites along with cocktails and mocktails.

Overall, keys hotel offers good value for money to its guests.

Royal Orchid Central, Bangalore

Royal Orchid Hotel, situated on Dickenson Road is a 4 star property lying in the garden city of Bangalore. It is at a distance of around 36 Kms from airport and 7 kms from railway station. Major tourist attractions like Madivala Lake, Lalbagh Lake, Cubbon Park, Ulsoor Lake, Coles Park, Richards Park (5 km approx.) and Freedom Park are just few minutes away.

Food, Amenities and Services – I happen to stay here, during one of my personal visits to the city. The hotel offers a boutique of facilities for the convenience of guests, which include foreign exchange, travel assistance, valet parking, laundry service, and fitness centre. Hotel offers variety of dining options. Pinxx, a lively 24-hour Coffee Shop, offers an all-day dining menu. Buffet breakfast here serves variety of options for food buffs. The award-winning Paparazzi Restaurant boasts a spectacular view of the city and serves international cuisine. It is a rooftop restaurant on 10th floor. The ambiance is amazing and its one of the best places for a candlelight dinner. Desserts particularly are nice. Overall, I had a peaceful and relaxing stay at the hotel.
