Couples that travel together, stay together!!

Travelling with your partner, family or friends is not only an extremely fun thing to do but also is vital for healthy relationships. Families and friends who make regular trips tend to be stronger, happier and closer. The same thing goes for couples too!

There are a plenty of reasons to support the travelling of couples together but the best ones according to team Ghoomophiro are listed below.

Understanding and adjusting to each other

Travelling is revealing and an eye- opener not only to the exterior world but also to each other. Couples get to know each others’ strengths and weaknesses and innovate ways to complement each on these roles as they survive similar situations together. They come to know whether they are fit to live together in the long run and at which places are the adjustments required. They see each other not only at their best but also at their worst.

The spark of the relationship remains alive

Travelling is one of the handiest ways to keep the relationship with your mate vivacious like it is in the initial days. It does not become dull with regular trips because something fresh and new awaits the couple at every turn.

Seeing the other one in a new light

Since you are with each other most of the time, there is little space for keeping any kind of secrets. There are no facades and you learn to appreciate your partner the way he or she is, with or without make- up, while he/she snores, so on and so forth. Travelling reveals a bunch of ugly truths which are a part of reality and consequently the relationship deepens. Unexpected things can happen while you are travelling which will eventually come to fruition because you will experience highs as well as lows and as a direct result your partner will get to see the genuine you.

They witness a pool of romantic moments

It goes beyond what you read in any book or watches a movie. As a travelling couple, you live the romance out of impulsiveness and a mindset that you could be led anywhere and anything could sparkle another moment of beauty. It is always about the experience and not the money that travelling together could bring!

They become more tolerant towards each other

Travelling together makes room for mistakes to be committed and flaws to be disclosed. However, challenges crop up all along the way and couples who travel together realise the need of forgiving each other quickly and moving on.

They learn to share responsibilities

To ease the burden while travelling, the partners learn to distribute responsibilities between them ensuring a hassle- free trip. Therefore, they learn to function as a single unit.

Their bond strengthens and they become BFFs

Since they have only each other to turn to while travelling and fewer disruptions by third parties, they are more likely to become better friends. They would have each other’s back during various challenges and will provide each other with the ally they need. This will be the ultimate test of love and a relationship. If you can face these situations and still love your significant other, you are going to be just fine when it comes to trivial arguments.

They grow jointly

Travelling offers loads of opportunities for learning, and the knowledge gaining experience bonds the couple together. They get to know about new things and widen their perspectives about stuff together resulting in simultaneous growth.

So plan up a trip soon with your better half! It will make your relationship better than ever before and rekindle your love.

Tips to book cheaper flights and hotels…after all travelling should never stop!!

Travelling is fun, the most fun thing everybody likes to do on their vacations or free time. But let us all just admit it, traveling isn’t cheap. It’s heavy on your pockets and that too in case of family outings and group travels. Getting the best deals on hotels and air fares is easier than before thanks to the online portals and everything. And plus, here are we with some useful tips and suggestions that could make the traveling easy on your pockets.

Hotels

Go for a meta-search engine- A hotel meta-search engine is a search portal that would refer to several hotel booking websites in order to zero on the cheapest and best deal for you.

Book last minute- booking at the very last minute can result in you getting an amazing deal on the hotel of your choice. Some last-minute booking apps such as HotelTonight have been in successful operation for quite some time now and should be on every traveler’s phone. However, the last-minute booking trick is risky, so if the trip is extremely important, book in advance.

Call the hotel directly- Being directly in contact with the hotel can grab you a good deal. The rates posted online are sometimes subject to change based on the vacant rooms and other stuff and the websites forget to update the rates on their official websites and portals. In that very scenario, calling the hotel directly and inquiring about the available room rates could get you the room at a much cheaper price.

Flights

Search for flight in midweek- The airline companies tend to raise their price over the weekends due to the high demand. So taking the flight on Tuesday or a Wednesday could get you a cheaper flight, more or less, as most flight companies come out with sales between Tuesdays and Thursdays. Eg for China Southern Airlines, you can plan the flight for Tuesday.

Look for a package- Opting for a package that involves a flight ticket along with a hotel booking could get you some pretty delicious deals. Almost all the main travel portals are filled with some tempting deals that could make you really really happy while being extremely easy on your pocket. These work especially when you travel in a group or with your family that gets better deals.

Keep checking their social media updates- If you are a frequent flier and still not following your favorite airline on the social networking sites, you are going so wrong. You could find some great deals on their pages which they would be happy to give to their most loyal customers. Other than that, there are portals such as Travelzoo, where the airlines post their discount news among other interesting things.

Just planning or even imagining about the place you’re planning to travel sends shivers of excitement down your spine but trying to book the cheapest possible flights to any given destination can be tiresome. It involves repeated searching.  Using these tips next time you book that flight or hotel would surely come in handy for achieving the goal of spending less while never missing out on the experience.

Cellular Jail aka Kala Pani is a soul stirring destination for every Indian

Cellular Jail, aka Kala Pani, is located in the Islands of Andaman and Nicobar. The jail was a colonial prison, a reminder of the British barbarism that the Indians suffered who raised voices against the colonial rule. Inhabited since as early as 2000 years ago, the Andaman and Nicobar islands were a strong British colony in the 18th century. During the 19th century as the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, history maintains, the British exploited Andaman and Nicobar as a penal colony, which was named ‘Kalapani’ or the Cellular Jail.  The idea of the Cellular Jail sprung into the minds of Britishers when they felt the need to curb the country’s war against colonial rule in 1857.

As the time passed and the prisoners kept on increasing in numbers, the size of the establishment also continued to expand. The in charge of the prison proposed the idea to the Raj to turn the place into a high-security jail. In its final form, the construction of the cellular jail began in 1893 and was finished by 1905. For the construction work of the jail, the prisoners were made to work as labors. The notorious jail was known to be the place where the British people reached the height of inhumanities. And soon enough, the place became a real world hell. The prison was known to house many notable Indian activists who participated in the struggle for India’s independence. The penal settlement that commenced in Andaman by the British after the First War of Independence in 1857 showcases the beginning of the distressing story of freedom fighters. It all started in the massive and awful jails at Viper Island and was followed by the Cellular Jail.

About the Prison

The cellular jail is a massive structure that goes up to three storeys including seven wings with different lengths, radiating through a watch tower in the center. The cells were designed in such a way which didn’t allow any sort of communication between two prisoners. The inmates were subjected to complete isolation. The design was created in such as way that a single guard was needed to keep an eye on all the cells from the central towers, but the prisoners couldn’t see them. The place was made known to the world in the context of a capital punishment and the revolutionaries, whom they called terrorists, were the prisoners.

The building material such as bricks were brought from Burma and the doors of each cell have been instilled with strong iron rods. The confinement level in the very small cells gave it the name cellular jail. To make the matters worse, there was no toilet on the cells. All these issues were the prime reasons for the spats taking place between the officials and the prisoners from time to time.

Trivia

-The torture tricks that were used on the Indians were quite inhumane as well. There were mass fits of hunger taking place which claimed the lives of a few Indian revolutionaries as well.

-The Japanese took hold of the Andaman Nicobar islands during the Second World War and during that time, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose visited the jails and declared it as ‘height of barbarism’.

-In 1979, the jail had been named as the National memorial place by the Indian government and since then, the UNESCO has recognized it as one of its world heritage sites.

Although the place is a reminder of how barbaric British were to the Indian freedom fighters, it remains a memorable one just for the memories of hundreds of revolutionaries who were once confined within these walls.

Why Travelling with your Sister is always Fun!!

We often come across this question, that what pushed us to choose our sister as travel partners. #ghoomophirosisters. Here you go..

You already know each other inside out

Travelling is a rigorous process consisting of a lot of sleepless nights and hurdles to overcome. It comes in handy to know each others’ habits, likes & dislikes, and strengths & weaknesses from beforehand. In such a case, there remains no room for unpleasant surprises when you already know how the other person reacts in similar situations. God forbid, if there is a crisis, you both can make a good pair ward off the trouble and emerge out of the negativity because of your mutual understanding and coordination.

It is easy to share money

It is much easier to share costs with your sister as compared to any other person. If you lend and do not get the money back in time, you know whom to catch hold of in financial crisis. You can vouch for her to pay your bills too as that is what at least an elder sister does! If you both are not earning as of now and your parents are funding the trip, there is no need for even splitting the costs; the payments can be done from one common source only. All these things add- on to the simplicity of the trip and hassle free travelling.

You both can be brutally honest with each other

There is a certain element of openness and frankness in the relationship of two siblings. They can criticise each other with ease when the need arises and be appreciative too with the same amount of comfort. The thought of the other person getting awkward usually does not arise.

Your sister will tell you when you behave irrationally or may be when your clothes do not look right! She might be savage in her delivery, but her intentions will always be altruistic.

Fights cannot go on for too long between you two

Quarrels with your family especially your siblings do not last for long. One moment you yell and shout on the other one and the very next moment you can be seen laughing together. That is how the relationship with a sister is! They are not serious and do not last for very long. You tend to forget about them soon and do not hold long- term grudges against each other.

Both of you will look out for each other

It is because you trust your sister with crucial things of life, you feel safe with her during travelling too. You can depend on her for all the important stuff like booking tickets, carrying documents and protecting you from unwanted circumstances. She will always have your back.  Also, it is nice to have someone to take care of your belongings and watch your bags while you run to the restroom!Convinced !! Plan a trip with your sissy soon then!

Tips: As you Pack your Footwears for Upcoming Travel

Footwear is the most important part of travel packing checklist. It makes all the more sense to look for basic things while choosing your foot-wears especially when you are on a backpacking trip, as you would like to not only ensure comfort but also it should be trending. Based on our solo backpacking travel experience, #ghoomophophirosisters came out with few tips that one should keep in mind while doing footwear shopping.
Trendy
Footwears should be trendy enough that can go well with an evening dinner or for a morning walk or to your hiking trails. We still recall our early travel days, when we used to keep a different pair of shoes for different occasions, but over a period our travel checklist evolved and we started packing shoes that can go well with our clothing, are trendy, comfortable and carry off fashion and utility hand in hand. These footwears could be of any material from leather to nylon, but should look nice on our feet.
Airport-Friendly
There are airports, which would ask you to remove them for security check-in. While traveling, it is really required that your shoes should be X-ray friendly and should not have metal, because, at times, such shoes waste a lot of your time while clearing security. Sports shoes, loafers, open sandals are good examples of airport friendly shoes.

Quality of Sole
Having a great quality of sole that can survive your rough hiking terrain and your long travel walks is an important aspect of travel foot wears. All good reasons, one would not like to go through the pain of wear and tear of your foot wears at least.

Breathable
While you on travel, make sure, the footwears should have a breathable membrane to avoid bad odor. Open shoes, flip flops, does help here, but in case you are going for shoes, prefer high-quality membrane shoes.

Cushioning & Lightweight
Since travel involves loads of walking, it is absolutely a great idea to wear light weight and comfortable footwears. One should ensure that their shoes have good cushioning that can prevent the feet from blisters. Lightweight foot-wears not only helps in keeping the feet happy but also keep your baggage light, which in turn is a boon while you have to take up a flight.

Waterproof

In case you are traveling during monsoon, or on a hiking trip, It is advisable to have waterproof shoes. This not only help you to go with only one pair of shoes but also, improves the durability of your shoes. There are water- proof sprays available, which can be used as an alternate option.

We hope that next time whenever you traveling, you know what to keep and what to avoid. You may ask questions like how frequently a particular pair can be used, or can this be replaced by some other pair. As a traveler, you would like to weigh your options carefully.
Personally, we prefer Nike shoes or Woodland Shoes to sandals on our travels, though this may change depending on travel destinations, and activities planned in itinerary but our backpack usually has a pair of fashionable, technical trendy footwears.
