Amrik Sukhdev Dhaba

Amrik Sukhdev Dhaba falls at the Delhi Ambala Highway in Murthal. Though the highway is filled with many other Dhabas and restaurants, Sukhdev Dhaba is always crowded with hundreds of visitors. It is preferred by most travellers for great meals. As far as Indian Dhaba style food is concerned, no place provides it better in a family environment and decent pricing than Sukhdev Dhaba.

Address: 52, 250 KM Stone, G.T Road, Murthal, New Delhi
Ambience: There is ample car parking space and the dining space is divided into two halls only one of which is air-conditioned. There’s also an open sitting space that falls under the self-service criteria. Though namely a ‘dhaba’, its interiors are no less than a high-end restaurant. The tables had lemon and mixed pickles on it already along with green chillies which did give the dhaba vibe. The washrooms were clean.
Food: Once we moved past the crowds and were finally seated, it was time for deciding what to eat. They offered North Indian cuisines as well as Chinese, South Indian and street food. The first thing that I ordered was paranthas that came with oodles of butter and lassi. These tandoori paranthas with Aloo and pyaz are their speciality so obviously, it turned out to be delicious. It is one of the must-try things if you go to Sukhdev Dhaba. It is served with white butter and the combination of the two is mouth watering. Apart from their paranthas, we also tried the aloo poori with iced shikanji and the aloo poori had that desi flavour of dhabas. Trying that mixed achaar with the poori gave it a heightened spicy flavour. The Iced Shikanji was just the cherry on top. Besides these two popular dishes of theirs, they also had a variety of other dishes on the menu but we were too stuffed to try them. But for dessert, we had some great yummy jalebis. Because there is always space in the tummy for dessert. They had options for cakes, pastries and ice cream as well but since we were already sticking to the Punjabi cuisine, we found Jalebis to be the better option. My suggestion is to always order a beverage like Lassi, Strawberry Shake or Shikanji accompanying the food because it makes the dining experience better.

Highlights: Even with the crowds, they had quick service and the food was always hot and delicious. The good quality products used in the food made the taste better and the place is very clean so no compromise on hygiene. With slow local music playing and delicious food in front of us, Sukhdev Dhaba became our new favourite place to dine.

Must Try:  Tandoori Paranthas with white butter. (You can also order sweet curd if that is more to your taste)

Verdict:  For anyone travelling to Murthal or driving across Delhi Ambala highway, this is a pit stop for great food and relaxation. You can enjoy their special daily curries with bread or go with the already adored paranthas. Sukhdev Dhaba gives you delicious food, good service and a relaxing atmosphere all at a decent price. Though for food so good, you would happily pay more. For people living in Delhi, this is the place for family outings and relaxed weekends. It is different than the usual hyped restaurants and though it is quite a drive, it is worth it.
Cost for two: Rs 400 approx.

Pizza Express- The best Pizzas under one roof

Pizza Express is conveniently located on the third floor of Ambience Mall. Moving up the elevator, it is the first restaurant you’ll see. We went there one Sunday afternoon and though there were many places to dine nearby, we decided to give Pizza Express a try, because we love pizza. And honestly, who doesn’t? The place provides you with the familiarity of Pizza but with unique artisanal styles and a variety of toppings. Though, you should interact with your server about how it tastes so you don’t end up ordering the wrong thing.
Ambiance: The place is so spacious and beautiful during daytime with great lights and hanging birds on top. We were given a warm welcome on our arrival and escorted to our table. We got to see the pizza being baked before we were served. It is a nice place for a casual hang-out with friends.

Menu: There are many options for crusts and toppings available. Though the options for non-vegetarians are wider than those of the vegetarians, we decided to give them both a try. And apart from Pizzas, they offer other Italian cuisines as well. There were options for Pasta, Lasagna, Dough balls and one can’t help but order cheesecake for desert. The Menu is well classified and there is the good range of options.

Food: The mushroom and Emilgrana dip with dough balls made way for our taste buds to start tingling. The Melazante piccante is a must try pizza for everyone who visits. It is a beautifully baked pizza with the abundance of mozzarella, spicy marinated aubergines, and jalapeno. It is just the right amount of cheesy and crunchy. We also ordered ‘The American’ and garlic bread. The American Pizza was an 11-inch pizza that gets you your money’s value and is light on the stomach but Piccante was the highlight of that dining experience. The garlic bread was warm and buttery and by that time we were already filled. Yet, we ordered the dessert anyway. Glad that we did because the cheesecake was heavenly. So smooth on your tongue and the texture is amazing. We had ordered a gin and tonic which was expensive yet tasted totally random. So the beverages are not recommended but it is the best place for Italian food. The thin crust pizza and dough balls are highly recommended.

Highlights: The staff is really helpful and nice. They greet you with a warm smile as soon as you enter. Melzante Piccante Pizza is something I would love to go back for. If you go to Pizza Express, surely try this. There are happy hours for getting a free drink on the order of one and special discounts on group dining.

Verdict: Everything we tried was delicious and we really had no complaints. The place is a little expensive but all good things are. So, the next time we start craving Pizzas and hope to make a small dent in our pockets, we know where to go. We’ll give it a total of 4 out of 5 stars.

Address: T-303B, 3rd Floor, Ambience Mall, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi
Going Again: We have yet to try other dishes on their menu like the Apollo Pizza, Tomato Pesto, Ginger Fresca and for that, we will be going there again.
Cost: ₹2,000 for two people (approx.) and ₹230 for a pint of beer (approx.) They accept cash and cards.

Savour pizzas with the best ingredients and freshest flavours at Jamie’s Pizzerias

If there was one name in the whole wide world that is constantly associated with the best pizzas, it would be Jamie Oliver. After the renowned chef started his chain in almost all the big cities all over the world, he arrived in India with some great recipes in Pizzas among other Italian dishes. Jamie’s Pizzeria, the UK-based international food chain is located in the Ambience Mall, Vasantkunj and is listed among the best pizza places in the city and around. The casual dining place opens up at 11 every morning and remains open until 11 at night.

The specialty about the place is the pizza base. A truly delicious pizza is if you can eat the base even if it has no vegetables on it and the base stands up to the pizza test very well well adding a new and delicious dimension to the pizza experience. The cost for two people is approximately Rs.800 that sounds pretty reasonable and comes without burning a hole in your pocket.

Ambience

The restaurant is located over a massive area of about 1000 square feet and provides an ample space to deal with a lot of customers at the very same time. The menu items are written on the blackboards from where you can order whatever you like. As you enter the Jamie Oliver’s first India venture, you can experience a warm ambience with buttery light and family-style tables. The place has retro styled tomato-red seats with a leather strap that represents both the friendliness and toughness that the Naked Chef is known for. All pizza lovers must surely check out the open kitchen concept where soft, doughy handkerchiefs are tossed into the air and a variety of pizzas are born and brought to your plate. We had a great time watching the delightful dough show. The beautiful hostess with shining yellow hair walks around and serves you the lovingly made pizzas with a welcoming smile.

Cuisine

Coming to the cuisines, the place is a must stopover for a variety of Pizzas and other Italian food items. And believe us when we say this, not many people are acquainted with Oliver’s magic. If you are an ardent pizza lover, there is no way in the world that you should miss the experience of dining at the place and have one of those amazing pizzas that they serve.

The Ginger beer and litchi juice were the first things we had and we didn’t regret. They were amazing, to begin with followed by some hand-stretched garlic bread with rosemary & an olive tapenade which warmed us up perfectly well before the pizza arrived. We ordered red rocket pizza which is a blend of tomatoes, mozzarella, rocket, and olives, cheddar and veg parmesan. The crunchy taste stayed in our mouths for a long time. The pizza was followed by desserts in form of ice cream and brownie. In the end, it was a perfect amalgamation of taste and aroma.

Highlights

Wine and ice cold beer are served to those who want to start or end the meal with some alcohol. The bar is amazing and beautiful to look at. The Italian essence you feel upon entering the place is one other major highlight of Jamie’s Pizzeria.

Jamie’s Pizzeria is for the die-hard pizza lovers who are not a big fan of American style pizzas and want to try the actual Italian flavors, the pizza recipes by famous Jamie Oliver.

  • Stalls are only allotted to vendors selling ware created in cottage industries or by individual craftsmen/artists.

Amour gets brownie points for its ambience and the art of presenting food with love

Amour Bistro located in New Delhi is one of those classy places that don’t boast off a complex and massive menu card.  Tucked away safely in the leafy climate of a sweet and tiny Malcha Marg in Chanakyapuri, the place has always been successfully attracting the classiest of people who have overtime become their regular customers. All thanks to the impeccable services and class that oozes out of every corner of the little place. It doesn’t really believe in showing off, it sticks so the modern European style of cooking and seeing the crowd here, we could assume that it sets well with the locales in a great way.

The timings of the restaurants are between 8 AM to 12 PM everyday and given the classiness of the place, it could be little heavy on your pocket. The average cost for two people enjoying their food at the place is about INR 3000. But it’s all definitely worth it.

Decor

Also open for the breakfast, the overall interior of the place is quite rustic and down to earth. The place has been made in such a way that it reminds you of a small country side cafe adorned with flowers. The interiors decoration is classy and people having a slightly above average artistic inclinations will find Amour more appealing. Empty wine bottles, coarse wooden furniture and the slight dash of greenery makes the place justifying its name, which is a French word for Love. The ambience is further romanticized by the aroma of fresh cheese and flowers, making it a perfect spot for dating and romantic getaways for an evening. With the wood furnishing and dim lighting, your experience will always be a romantic one. You can also try the open sitting and enjoy the lake view if the weather is pleasant.

Food

Taking the European food culture to a whole new level, Amour seems to be trying to introduce Indians to how the food culture goes back in Europe, especially France. The charred mushrooms, which we found out on the menu, were just as we expected, delicious as hell. It was served with spring onions, broccoli, and condensed tomatoes. That, along with the garlic bread melted in our mouths and provided our taste buds with an experience that would stay in there for a very long time. We also ordered the Crostini Bread for starters which made a really nice sharing starter.

Along with that, the salads are intoxicating as well. Green beans salad with broccoli and lettuce was mind blasting and despite being a pure vegetarian dish, it didn’t let us down when it comes to the taste. Amaretto cake was what we had for the dessert and our meal finally was done in the most delicious way possible. In the end, we tried the soft and moreish Toffee Cake which served as a warm and comforting twist to the day.

Tip: For the ones not that acquainted with the European food, can ask the super friendly staff for help. They are helpful and could guide you through the different ingredients used in a particular meal.

Highlights

The restaurant chefs like to experiment a lot. There is inclusion of new dishes every few weeks and most of their tests are quite spot on. That gives out another reason to make a stop at Amour every few weeks.

Conclusion

The restaurant oozes out love from every small corner of it. Try it for a romantic getaway!
