Tips for First-Time Adventures in India

Posted on July 2, 2023 by

It is best to prepare for the change in culture when you are visiting a country that completely contrasts your own. The country is phenomenal, but also enormous and filled with culturally different experiences that will feel entirely different from home. So, if you are heading there for a first-time adventure, here are some tips that will help you have the best experience possible.

Get Your Documents in Order

Check if you need an India e visa, make sure your passport is in date, and book your accommodation! These three tasks should become your mantra until they are completely taken care of. These are the main things that will delay your travel, make life more difficult, and disrupt your itinerary when you arrive at the start of your trip.

Plan Your Time Carefully

Did we mention India is big? The sheer size of this country means there are so many things that you could do, but you must plan your time carefully. If you get too tired and burn out in the first few days, you won’t be able to properly enjoy the rest of your stay. This will mean you might miss out on essential experiences!

Visit the Nature Spots Too

It’s not all about city life and big attractions. India has some of the best nature spots in the whole world. Finding your peace is easy, and it is entirely possible to see and feel just as much Indian culture outside of the city walls.

Be Mindful About the Water

It is well understood that all travelers to India should drink bottled water, instead of that which comes from the taps. This is because there is a risk that the difference in water will play havoc with your bowels, or make you sick in some other way. That’s the last thing you need when you’re trying to unwind and explore.

Talk to the People

There’s a strong possibility that at certain points in your trip, especially if you opt for trying out public transport, there will be a few people invading your personal space. You will also find that lots of Indian residents are incredibly welcoming and friendly. You may just find the next amazing experience if you open yourself up to being friendly back, and it could be a friend for life!

Dress Respectfully

There are certain expectations when walking around India, especially in sacred spots like temples. For instance, modesty is encouraged, so try not to show too much skin skin. You should also respect the rules about taking off your shoes and ensuring that you have good foot hygiene throughout your visit as this will make a good impression and feel more authentic as well.

Be Aware

As with any country, there are pickpockets targeting tourists. Try not to stand out from the crowd as a newbie and make smart decisions about how you carry your personal belongings. Research routes before you head out so you aren’t wandering around looking helpless, and be assertive when you ask for directions.

First-time adventures in India can be truly amazing if you give yourself over to the experience. There is a lot to see and learn, and it will be a lot of fun.
